This is how the Virginia Division point system works.

The championship categories are separate Men's and Women's in each of: Three Weapon, Foil, Épée, Sabre, Novice Foil, Unrated Three Weapon, and Junior Three Weapon.

Only open events fenced in VA count towards the totals for that weapon and three-weapon standings (beginning 2002-2003, previously all events counted).

All events at Virginia tournaments count for Junior Three-Weapon and Unrated Three-Weapon.

Only Foil events count for the Novice Foil.

Anyone from any division may win the points standings, not just VA members.

Novices are people who fenced their first tournament ever after last season's Cavalier Novice, generally held in early/mid November.

A Junior is someone who is 19 years old or younger on December 31st of this season.

The Unrated category is open to people with no rating in any weapon. If at the end of the season you have a rating, you are not eligible to be the Unrated points champion.

The formula is:

  • One point for showing up.
  • One point for each place above last.
  • Five bonus points for winning.
