Starting Times
(except as noted for individual events):
Ordinarily registration closes at 9:30am Saturday for Foil, and 12:30pm Saturday for Sabre. Registration closes at 9:30am Sunday for Épée. Check each tournament's page for the exact schedule.

Close of registration is the same time for men's and women's events if fenced separately; most events are mixed.

Fencers may be allowed to register late, at the discretion of the bout committee, but there is a $5.00 late fee in addition to the usual entry fee. Fencing starts as soon as possible after the close of registration.

Eligibility:   Except as noted, events are open to all competitive members of the USFA and foreign fencers with current FIE licenses.

Entry Fees:   Entry fees are normally $15.00 for each event. (There is no longer a discount on additional events in a weekend.) The Executive Committee may change prices on a per-tournament basis. For team competitions, plan on $10 per person.

Safety Requirements:
Due to USFA insurance requirements, all fencers in Virginia Division competitions are responsible for meeting the following safety standards:
Clothing must be in good condition (no holes).

Competitors must wear plastrons in all weapons regardless of the type of jacket (FIE or otherwise).

Women must wear breast protectors in all weapons. (There is no equivalent requirement for men, but appropriate armor is strongly recommended!)

Masks must be in good condition and must be able to pass the 12 kilogram punch test. The bib must be securely sewn to the mask with strong thread (e.g., dental floss).

Legs must be fully covered. In other words, long socks must be worn with knickers.

Knickers or pants must be made of sufficiently robust material and must fasten below the knees. Neither sweatpants nor shorts are acceptable.

Jackets must overlap knickers/pants by at least 10 cm.

Fencers who do not have appropriate equipment will not be allowed to fence.

Age Requirements:   Fencers must be at least 13 years old as of December 31 of the current season to enter Open events. Younger fencers may enter age-restricted and some other restricted events. Those too young to enter Opens are encouraged to participate in Regional Youth Circuits. Information on these circuits can be found here: http://www.usfaryc.org
